High school is a time to explore and prepare. Think about what you want from high school and take steps to achieve your goals; this will help you reach your dreams. Explore different jobs and find out what people do at work. Check into military options. Find out if self-employment is a good fit for you. Learn how to apply and interview for jobs. Find ways to succeed on your job. You don't have to do it alone. There are agencies and services to help you gain skills and find a job. See some of the resources below.
Idaho Career Investigation Services (Idaho CIS): Complete the checklists for each grade; explore various occupations and watch videos to see what they do so you can find jobs and places to work that fit your needs and dreams. Think about your strengths, skills, community participation, volunteer experiences, and build a resumé. This site can even help you plan for college by keeping track of scholarship applications, deadlines, and college entrance test results in your portfolio. For Genesee students, we can set up an account so students can build an online portfolio. Idaho CIS
"Deep in our hearts, we all want to find and fulfill a purpose bigger than ourselves. Only such a larger purpose can inspire us to heights we know we could never reach on our own. For each of us the real purpose is personal and passionate to know what we are here to do, and why." - OS Guiness

Idaho Career One Stop – Idaho Dept. of Labor:
One-Stop Centers were started to bring together employment and training services that work with all people into one place and make it easier for job seekers and employers to use these services. They have three tiers of service-- self-directed, intensive, and training.
The one-stop includes national, state and local job listings; career guidance; specialized workshops designed to help a person looking for a job or who wants to change careers; and access to education and training resources in the community. Many businesses use them to get qualified workers.
The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) programs may be helpful for students as they transition into adult employment. If so, we should invite their representative to IEP meetings. Some of the training partners they work with in Lewiston are Lewis-Clark State College, Headmasters School of Hair Design, and Mr. Leon’s School of Hair Design. Both Lewiston and Moscow participate in the Community Outreach program. Through this program, groups and organizations that work directly with One-Stop Career Centers receive open job notifications on a daily basis that match the criteria they specifically requested; they can be classified by location, profession, education, and experience.
