The Federal Government makes sure Idaho is following the IDEA rules and the state makes sure districts follow those rules. They look at Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and transition plans to make sure students are invited to meetings and that IEPs contain goals that can be measured; they should help the student be successful after high school with more education, job training, independent living skills, and community living. Some of those requirements are listed below.

- Student must be invited to attend the IEP meeting; send separate invitation for student; (available in English or Spanish).
- Measurable post-secondary goals in Employment, Training (these can be combined), Education, and Independent Living (when appropriate) such as, “Jan will attend LCSC to become a welder within one year after graduating from high school.”
- Measurable post-secondary goals derived from age-appropriate transition assessments completed throughout the year.
- Transition supports and activities must directly align to post-secondary goals.
- Completion of the Transition portion of the IEP will include current/past transition activities in domain areas and a multi-year course of study (8th-12th grades and 18-21 if appropriate).
- Completion of “age of majority” section at the appropriate time (one year prior to 17th birthday).
- IEP goals that help student meet post-secondary goals in areas of employment, education, and independent living.
- Outside agencies invited to 11th and 12-grade IEP meetings (permission to invite signed by parents before invitation is sent).
- Completion of Summary of Performance during the senior year (or just prior to graduation for students 18-21).
